Disordered Eating & Weight Challenges

Does food and eating rule your life?
Do you eat sensibly in public but when you are alone your eating is out of control?
You eat eat in secret.
Are you struggling to find an eating pattern that you can stick to long term?
Are you feeling miserable about your body or your weight?
Food is your friend and enemy at the same time
Would you like to finally make peace with food?

It is difficult to deal with a chronic weight problem or disordered eating without appropriate treatment. Treatment starts with transforming your relationship with food.

In my practice I use a weight neutral, non-dieting approach to nutrition counselling.

We will work together to:

  • Gain insight into your eating patterns and food cravings

  • Discover what in your past has contributed to your eating problem

  • Strengthen your emotional resilience without turning to food to relieve stress and unhappiness

  • Manage your constant thoughts about food and weight

  • Get you back to natural appetite regulation and enhance well being

  • Heal your self worth and body image

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Have you just been diagnosed with PCOS?
Are you confused with what to eat when you have PCOS?
Are you trying to conceive?

Living with PCOS can be frustrating. You have just been told “just lose weight” or “ I don’t know if you are able to have a baby”. Those words hit home so you make a promise to clean up your diet and sign up to boot camp to shed the weight. It’s been a difficult journey, you exercise daily and have tried every known diet possible yet you still gain weight no matter how hard you try. Negative thoughts towards yourself and body start to emerge and you feel uncertain about what the future holds for you…..
I have heard these stories many times before and understand what you are going through! I have a special interest in helping women with PCOS find their unique way with food and body to relieve symptoms such as insulin resistance/inflammation, mood swings and emotional/binge eating.
The same old weight loss advice given to women with PCOS is just so out dated as we know that insulin resistance and inflammation occurs independently of BMI/obesity. Yes, even LEAN women with PCOS experience insulin resistance and inflammation. So how could punishing yourself by dieting and extreme exercise be the key to managing PCOS?! It just isn't and I promise you there is a better way that is nourishing to your mind, body and soul.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Stomach Cramps, Bloating, Gas, Constipation & Diarrhoea.

Welcome to the world of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders worldwide affecting as many as 1 in 5 adults in Australia. People with IBS do not have any anatomic defect instead they appear to have highly sensitive bowels. The cause of IBS is unclear however lifestyle factors such as stress and diet can worsen symptoms.

There is no cure for IBS and treatment is focused on symptom management. Treatment modalities include dietary changes, psychological therapies and medications.

There is now convincing evidence that the Low FODMAP diet can help approximately 70% of people with IBS find symptom relief. It could be that you are sensitive to certain poorly absorbed carbohydrates called FODMAPS which tend to produce only stomach and bowel symptoms. FODMAPs include foods that contain fructose (fruit, honey), lactose (dairy), sorbitol (artificial sweeteners), mannitol (mushrooms), fructans (wheat, onions) and galacto-oligosaccharides (legumes).

The Low Fodmap elimination protocol is the only way to identify which foods are problematic. This process is complex and I've guided many people through this to discover their food triggers in a way that does not compromise their health.
